About Me - Sean Reidy

About Me

My name is Sean Reidy, and I’m a lifelong engineer and learner. My experience has taken me across several engineering disciplines and job roles - jumping into unfamiliar problems, learning fast, and delivering. Along the way I've been able to draw on my experience and connect it to the problem at hand, enriching my engineering expertise and capabilities, no matter the application. As an engineer or as a leader, I can find out how to put my skills to use.

Jumping off from my degree in Mechanical Engineering at Penn, I started my career as a Launch Engineer at SpaceX, working on launch integration of avionics and propulsion systems and then growing to launch automation and operations. I turned wrenches, troubleshot circuits, automated processes, and was a Launch Controller, solely responsible for controlling the rocket at T-0. My contributions overall took me from the hangar, to the clean room, to the launch pad across 50+ launches.Along the way I sought opportunities to automate parts of the launch process, including the entire launch site testing of the entirety of Falcon 9’s propulsion system.

I then jumped into the unknown world of Software Engineering at Amazon working in Supply Chain Optimization Technologies, building scalable systems that keep things in stock. If you go on Amazon and the thing you want to buy is out of stock, blame me. I have experience delivering scrappy and robust systems from the ground up. This experience took me to my current role as a Software Development Manager, leading a team of 9+ engineers across a variety of products. My small team packs a large punch, currently controlling $20B a year of Amazon’s purchasing decisions. I have experience in delivering complex solutions while simplifying the software architcture.

Outside of work, I enjoy running, cooking, studying up on New York City’s transportation system, and tinkering with my home electronics (my custom-built computer is still going strong after 5 years).
